It all started with a very simple mission: find some decent number plates.
We thought it would be easy. A few clicks, maybe a nice font, job done. Oh no. What we found instead was a strange world of sketchy websites, pixelated previews, dodgy fonts, and questionable “legal” claims. Half of them looked like they were made in 2004… and probably were.
So, like any sensible people with a slightly unhealthy obsession with fonts, spacing, and things being just right, we said:
“Sod it. We’ll make our own.” And thus, the side hustle was born.
Not Just Plates. Precision Plates.
We didn’t want to just slap some letters on a bit of plastic and call it a day. Oh no. We went full nerd.
- We sourced proper Charles Wright 2001 font, like the DVLA gods intended.
- We measured everything: stroke widths, character spacing, plate size, even the placement of the BSAU markings.
- We tested print quality, UV resistance, and materials until our printers were crying.
- And then… people started asking.
“Oi, where’d you get your plates done?”
“Can you do one for my van?”
“My mate wants one for his show car.”
And so on. Apparently, we weren’t the only ones fed up with rubbish number plates.
From Side Hustle to Slightly-Busier Hustle
We didn’t plan to make this a business. Honestly, we just wanted plates that didn’t look like they’d been made with MS Paint. But word spread, plates flew out, and now we’ve got a tidy little setup. Still a side hustle, technically… but a very good-looking one.
